Male Escort Melbourne – 27 October 2022
This show is just one of the few that I’ve watched twice or even three times – it’s that awesome! I’ve wrote about Hung before, in my blog post here
It’s about the unconventional portrayal of a female pimp, Tanya and a male escort/companion, Ray, who join forces to create a new opportunity for women, to be able to get what they want, and when they want it. And to be able to enjoy a real sensual experience, making them feel more empowered in their ability to feel great about themselves, and take control of their own lives.
In later episodes, they start a business venture, Happiness Consultants. It is a wellness centre for women where Tanya guides her students towards knowing and owning their sexuality, encouraging them to know their vulva and embrace their sexual identities.
There are many things I love about the show, including of course Ray’s fun character who tries to get back up on his feet after losing his job as a high school teacher and a basketball coach, using the only asset he thinks could help him do so—a big one at that—between his pants. While it’s written as a comedy, a lot of elements of the show reflect what you might expect with a male escort, remember that the play for comedic value may come off a little cringey at times.
A lot of these things are also about how the show focuses on empowering women and emphasises the importance of embracing their sexuality. Here are a few….
(And if you haven’t watched it yet, there are a few spoilers in this post, so maybe you should head on over and watch it before you read on.)
When Tanya schools Ray on wholesome sex
Tanya helped Ray realise that it’s just not enough to be handsome and well-endowed. She taught him that sex is not just about wham, bam, thank you ma’am – it’s far beyond that. Sex, especially the female experience of it – is not only about the intercourse, but more about the whole process that leads to it – the foreplay, the buildup, the sensuality, and everything in-between. Tanya proved herself to be a potentially successful entrepreneur by understanding her clientele and training her ‘employee’ to fulfil his requirements during his, ahem, private consultations
.
When Tanya gets back at Charlie for swindling her
Tanya has flaws of her own, but one good trait that you can clearly see in her is her bravery and willingness to go to any lengths to stand her ground and make things right for herself. Her relationship with Charlie, a male pimp, was more of a mentorship in the beginning, which later evolved into a romantic relationship. Then Charlie ends up stealing money from her and disappearing from her life.
Later when she confronts him, he shows no remorse for doing so and in turn blames her for trusting a fellow pimp. With all that said, she ends up stealing his precious cows to make up for the money she lost because of him. Incidents like this show female characters like Tanya standing up for themselves and striving to balance the scale by not backing out from a fair payback.
When Happiness Consultants Makes Private Consultations Easy
Tanya and her venture, Happiness Consultants, helped women not only empower themselves and get to know their bodies and sexuality better, it also helped them book private consultations with Ray within an organic environment. This made them feel safe to explore their most hidden desires and pleasures without hesitation or fear of judgement.
Tanya’s business may have seemed fluff on the surface but what she did really served a purpose and had meaning. In a world where discussing female sexuality is still considered a taboo in many places and seeking services of pleasure even more so, Tanya provided a place for both in a wholesome way. She deserves credit for that!
When Lenore enjoys sex just for the sex
The mainstream media has forever been portraying women having sex because of emotional attachments or developing them because of it. But Hung showed that women can also enjoy sex and even demand it just for the pleasure of it, no strings attached – with Lenore’s character. Lenore is a shrewd, enterprising character who brings her own well-gifted young man, Jason, to compete with Tanya’s business and take some of the ‘market share’. It of course starts with her ‘testing’ Jason to check whether he would be suited for the role, and enjoys the perks of his endowment along the way through and through.
Though a lot of her decisions are definitely questionable in the show, and she comes to as the show progresses have a very envious, revengeful, bitchy, and yukky personality – some things you can definitely take away from her character are her confidence and awareness of what she wants, not only in sex but in life. Top them off with her willingness and drive to actually go out there and unapologetically get them. She knows it’s only her who can fulfil what she wants, and no one else owes anything to her to do so.
Well, I hope you liked my character breakdown of the femme fatales of Hung, a show I’ve grown to love not only for its infectious humour, but also the portrayal of its quirky characters that are inspirational in their own ways, if you know where to look! See you on the next blog.
