Ride Like a Girl

An Australian biographical sports drama film, Ride Like a Girl is a wonderful, entertaining, and empowering movie.

It is based on the true story of Michelle Payne, who was the first female jockey to win the prestigious Melbourne Cup.

I saw this movie recently, and thought I just have to write about it, because it shows people, and especially women, that you can do anything, if you really want to.

Throughout the movie, Michelle was criticised and ridiculed because she wanted to be a successful horse rider in the big races, and she was a female. Michelle remained determined, defiant of what people said, and went on to be selected to race in the Melbourne Cup, and she won.

It was a history defining moment, especially with the way she was using her win to help women feel empowered to achieve anything.

Starring Teresa Palmer, Sam Neill, and Stevie Payne (Michelle Payne’s brother who got to play himself in the movie, how cool is that!!), and directed by Rachel Griffiths, this Australian movie Ride like a girl, is well worth a watch.

“I want to say to everyone else (who think women aren’t good enough), get stuffed, because women can do anything and we canbeat the world.”

– Michelle Payne, 2015 Melbourne Cup winner
