Karma

Do you believe in Karma?

‘I believe in karma, what you give is what you get returned.’ Actually that sounds like the lyrics of “Affirmation,” by Savage Garden, doesn’t it?

From Wikipedia:

“Karma means action, work or deed; It also refers to the spiritual principle of cause and effect where intent and actions of an individual (cause) influence the future of that individual (effect).

Good intent and good deeds contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deeds contribute to bad karma and future suffering.”

Karma refers to the idea that if you do good things, then good things will happen to you. If you are good to others, then others will be good to you.

If you give love, you will receive more love.

If you make others happy, you will be happy, and others will help make you happy.

In the same way, if a person does bad things, or is bad, mean, unpleasant, or rude to other people, then they shall have those things done to them, or have people act that way towards them.

I think it is a good principle to live by, and I believe in karma.

I always do the best I can for others, and contribute to the world in the best way that I can, and I don’t expect anything in return; so whatever good fortune comes my way, I am appreciative and grateful.

This leads to me being happy, which allows me to do even more good.

Sometimes it may seem that karma isn’t real – You may be always caring for others, and getting no good fortune in return, or worse still, having negative things happen to you, seemingly all the time.

Or someone may be acting negatively towards others, abusing people, being manipulative, violent, or aggressive, and they seem to get away with it.

In both these cases I ask you to please try and have faith. Have faith that karma will help you out. That while things may not seem so good at the moment, if you keep being a good person, and doing your best, at whatever it is you do – whether it’s being a good friend, a good mother, doing your best with your work.. Even being a good friend to yourself, is so important – that karma will look after you.

The Universe, or God, call it/him/her what you will, looks after those who look after others.

We all share this beautiful world, and we all contribute to keeping it in balance. Each of us are part of everything, and affect everything else.

Karma helps to keep things in balance.

If you see someone who has done very bad things, maybe an abusive ex-partner, anyone who treats others with disrespect, unkindness, or in other bad ways.. And you feel that they aren’t being punished, that they seem to be happy and getting on with their life as they do, and always hurting others.. Trust that they will have bad karma, because they are the ones who created it, through their own beliefs and actions. They will be punished for it, and they will suffer, whether in this life and/or whatever may come afterwards.

Try not to focus on what they have done, and on how they may seem to be ‘getting away with it.’

Have faith that they will get what they deserve, and try not to dwell on it.

I don’t know about you, but I’m the type of person who doesn’t wish bad karma on anyone. I don’t want bad things to happen to people, but at the same time I see people who have done such bad things to others, and it’s easy to wish that they would be punished for it.. They will be. But you don’t have to do it, I don’t have to do it, we just have to have faith that justice will be served.

Instead try and focus on the good things, notice the people on the world who are doing good things for other people, who are doing good things for animals, and who are doing good for the world in general.

Notice how they are mostly rewarded with kindness, gratitude, and good fortune.

Notice the good things that you do to others, and notice how you are rewarded for it. Even if it seems like you aren’t being rewarded for your actions, you will be.

There are always good things, if you are open and ready to notice them.

Even simply being alive, is a wonderful thing.

I believe in karma, and I live my life in the best way that I can, which enables me to serve others, contribute to the world, and be happy.

Do you believe in karma?

Let’s finish this blog piece with the words to the song “Affirmation” by Savage Garden. Or better still, click here to listen to it.

“Let’s do the best we can, and be the best

 we can.

The Universe will love us for it.”

– The Love Doctor

Savage Garden “Affirmation” lyrics :

I believe the sun should never set upon an argument,

I believe we place our happiness in other people’s hands,

I believe that junk food tastes so good because it’s bad for you,

I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do,

I believe that beauty magazines promote low self-esteem,

I believe I’m loved when I’m completely by myself alone.

[Chorus]

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned,

I believe you can’t appreciate real love until you’ve been burned,

I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side,

I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye.

[Verse 2]

I believe you can’t control or choose your sexuality,

I believe that trust is more important than monogamy,

I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul,

I believe that family is worth more than money or gold,

I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair,

I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires.

[Chorus]

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned,

I believe you can’t appreciate real love until you’ve been burned,

I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side,

I believe you don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye.
