Sometimes life feels so good….

Sometimes life feels so good….

25 January, 2017

Call me an optimist if you wish. Accuse me of ignoring many of the bad things which exist or happen in our modern society if you have to.

But, to me, there is little point dwelling on the negatives. I prefer to focus on the positives and do my best on a regular basis to delete from my mind (just as you would from the hard drive on your computer) most of those trials and tribulations we all experience in everyday life. You know, those minor arguments or disagreements we have with people around us at work or with our neighbours; those frustrating times with tradesmen or delivery men not being on time or not doing a job properly; or those petty, bureaucratic issues which plague us at banks or in shops; or with trying to get our computers to work properly… I think you get the gist.

To get rid of these unpleasant memories and annoyances which, if left to fester can build up and become major issues, causing stress and upset, I like to spend some time every day to meditate (even just for 10 minutes) and clear my mind. I may sit and close my eyes or I may go for a solo walk, savouring the peacefulness and quiet of a country area or a garden, or park. Either way, the result is the same: I enjoy the time when I can clear my mind and forget those minor problems or issues which we all suffer from!

However, I know many people may have much bigger problems. Problems with recent or current relationships; problems following disagreements with family members; even problems with their health—and not all of them can be solved by simply spending time meditating.

Yet, meditating can be a start. Practice spending some quality time alone and clearing your head and mind; try to objectively identify the causes of your problems, and do your best to rationalise things…, also endeavouring to work out the best course of action to solve the most pressing issues.

Stage two can be to find a professional or trusted person to talk to; maybe outline your plan to them about how you will begin to solve the issues you are facing and see what they think about your strategy. See if they can offer some tips or guidance, and build a timeframe for you to start to action your solution.

At the end of the day, though, more often than not the solution will be with you; only you know yourself—as well as the cause of the problem in the first place!

Of course, I am always here to help you get back to your best as, as I said at the beginning, I am an eternal optimist! So, what are you waiting for, go for it!
